Temp Recruitment FAQs
How do temp agencies work?
A temp agency, also known as an employment agency, works in partnership with a company to find them temporary workers for short-term, longer-term or ongoing temporary roles. Temporary staff are employed directly by the temp agency, with the temp agency taking care of the temp’s payroll and all the employer responsibilities, such as holiday pay, pension and employer’s National Insurance. The temp agency charges the company an hourly rate for their temporary staff services, usually invoiced on a weekly basis.

Why hire a temp?
Reasons to hire temporary staff include flexibility, unexpected or urgent staffing needs, and a quick hiring process. Some companies hire a temp to cover sickness or holiday leave, to assist with a project, or potentially for an ongoing position that could lead to permanent employment (temp to perm or temp to hire).
What is a temp-to-perm or temp-to-hire position?
These are temporary roles, with the potential to develop into a permanent contract if both the employer and temporary employee are happy. Benefits include allowing the employer and the temporary candidate to essentially 'try before they buy'.
How much does it cost to hire a temp?
This varies depending on the seniority and skill level of the temporary staff required and is usually a margin applied on top of the temp’s total employment costs.
Does your temp agency provide virtual temporary staff?
Yes, our temp agency has a team of high-calibre virtual temporary staff with a remote office set-up and all the technology required to provide an exceptional service for your virtual temporary roles.
What is AWR (Agency Workers Regulations)?
The Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) came into force in October 2011 and give temp agency workers the right to the same pay rates and working conditions (after 12 weeks) as if they had been hired directly by the employer. Temporary staff also have some workers’ rights from Day 1 of their assignment, so it’s important to partner with a specialist temp agency with expert AWR knowledge, such as Tyler Griffen Recruitment.
